DESCRIPTION

common motor classes are synchronous and induction motors. Synchronous motors are more efficient than induction motors, but are more expensive and complicated and typically have a shorter life span. This course covers fundamentals of these motor classes and is geared towards engineers of all disciplines who are responsible for sizing, specifying, selecting, or purchasing electric motors.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND

The course is recommended primarily for Electrical Engineers or others desiring a basic understanding of the characteristics of an AC induction motor.

1.  Synchronous and induction motor principles of construction and operation
2. Relative merits of induction vs. synchronous motors, as well as typical applications
3. Synchronous motor types, including brush excitation and brushless excitation
4. Synchronous motor starting methods
5. Induction motor types, including squirrel cage and wound-rotor
6. Motor enclosure types, including open, weather protected, totally enclosed, and explosion proof
7. Specifying the insulation system, temperature rise and the impact of temperature on the motor’s service life
